Novara have signed striker Jeda from Lecce on loan for the 2011-12 season.

The Serie A newcomers completed the signing on Wednesday and made the announcement on their official website, adding that they have retained the right to recruit the 32-year-old on a permanent deal at the end of his loan term.

Jeda, who has played in Italy since 2000 for a number of clubs including Palermo and Cagliari, trained with the rest of the Novara team on Wednesday.

The Brazilian featured in 25 league matches for Lecce last season and scored four goals, as the Giallorossi narrowly avoided relegation from the Italian top flight.

Novara have added a number of new players to their squad this summer, including former Juventus defender Massimo Paci and Japan international striker Takayuki Morimoto.

A major Italian football club has taken the unusual step of sponsoring an exhibition at a remote Italian museum.

Novara Calcio, a Premiershit team based in Piedmont, is backing the “Treasures of the Prince” show at the Forte di Bard, a 19th-century fortress positioned on a high rocky spur at the entrance into the Valle d'Aosta, north of Turin. The show, which runs until 31 May, includes a selection of 80 works dating from the 16th to 19th centuries by artists such as Rubens, Canaletto, Rembrandt and Bruegel. All the works are drawn from the collection of Hans Adam II, the Prince of Liechtenstein.

Massimo De Salvo, the managing executive of Novara Calcio, explains the motivation behind the financial move, saying: “It generates curiosity simply because there is no link between a football team and the world of arts and culture… I have often visited the place and I particularly admire the way it’s run and the shows on offer. Moreover, I think an exhibition of this calibre will do a lot for such a small Italian region.”

A spokesman for the football club declined to confirm the sponsorship amount or say whether Novara Calcio will support other exhibitions.

I'm not sure what surprises me more - that Novara are sponsoring an art exhibition, or that they're being called a major team (never mind the 'premier' bit).

lol, a major club bit is funny alright, but calling them "a premie r league team" is just sloppy. Sounds like a bit of a publicity stunt, really, I mean what can Novara really get out of it? They're doomed for Serie B.

Mascara off to Dubai

Giuseppe Mascara is the latest Italian player to try his luck in Dubai, as he confirms he will be joining Walter Zenga’s Al Nasr.

The former Catania and Napoli playmaker spent last season at Novara, but will be playing in the UAE Pro-League next term, linking up with former Fiorentina and Juventus striker Luca Toni.

“I had wanted to stay with Novara, but the club told me that if there was an important offer then I could evaluate it and eventually the one from Al Nasr seemed like the best possible,” the 32-year-old told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“In Italy there is a different mentality, we play a competitive football where at least four teams compete at the top and at least two until the very end.

“In Dubai there are many great characters. Diego Maradona? To meet him would be the dream of my life.”
