Who do we want to win now that Italy (and the Italian influenced England) are out? Forza Holland?

I predicted Germany to win it before the WC and i'd still like to see them go all the way. They have a fantastic young team full of young players who have been given the chance on the big stage and they haven't disappointed, and their quality attacking play is a joy to watch.

Of course, looking at the draw, the Germans are in the tough 'side', facing Argentina this weekend and then (presumably) Spain or Portugal in the semi's, should they progress. Brazil or Holland, should they meet in the quarters, have a much easier route to the final (against Uruguay)

No way! Germany and definitely Brasil are two nations that we don't want winning this world cup. Even Argentina to a certain extent. The simple reason being Brasil go to 6, Germany go to 4 or Argentina go to 3. I like us being the only Euro side on 4, and with the next wc being in Brasil, you'd expect them to take another star, I just don't want them getting to far ahead of us. Thats why I didn't care if England, now Holland win this time around.

To be honest, I wouldnt consider Brazil to have an easier route to the final because they face Uruguay and not Spain or Portugal. IMO Uruguay can beat both those teams currently.

Really, Lomba? I think (potentially for Germany) facing England < Argentina < Spain is a lot harder than facing Chile < Holland < Uruguay (for Brazil). I like Uruguay, they are a very good team with extremely hard-working and tough midfielders and a lot of class upfront (even Cavani has impressed me for them – I think its 'cos he realises he's not the main man in the side and so has to work hard and track back, something which he has done very well for them), but I don't think they would be as fearsome opponents at the Spanish would in a WC semi-final. They may well trouble Brazil because they would be well used to them, but the Brazilians should have enough to beat them. Germany, on the other hand, after humiliating Engerland, now have an extremely tough and hard to call game against the Argies, and if they win that they could (potentially) be facing a very dangerous Spanish side.

MI, I have to say that possibility never even came to my mind when saying who I'd like to win.

As long as its not Portugal. They are horrible, whiney, moaney cnuts and I don't understand how any neatral could support them.

Brazil might be considered to have an easier route IMO only because they are the better team of the tournament. In no way do they have the attacking power Argentina have, neither do they have the technique the Spanish or the Dutch have in midfield...but they seem to me the most solid group of the bunch..even mentally. That is why they will probably beat Uruguay and Holland. But that to me doesnt mean they have an easier route. This Spanish squad is stellar to say the least, in each and every department, but they seem to be a fragile group.
Of course, the names of the teams that will face Germany are much more fearsome...but I beleive the ones Brazil have are currently more fit. I am not really impressed about this Argentina, though I'd like them to win it.

Sorry, MI, the [sarcasm] code on the site must not be working, I think Maro probably broke it with his constant overuse of it.

It is bad the Germans are out. They are a great young team and hoped they could of won it. They struggled to gain control against Spain and never really settled and attacked the way they done in their previous games. Still, its hard to argue against Spain's performance, they deserved to win, and now I hope they go on and beat the Dutch in the final.

I believe Spain slightly deserved their win over Germany, but i dont think based on their other performances they deserved to be here.
Del Bosque deserves 90% of the credit here....the players barring a couple were quite average
