Exactly two weeks before the new season kicks off, the new 2008/09 Juventus continues to take shape. In a period where even the European championships risk being obscured by all the summer transfer rumours, it was up to Jean-Claude Blanc to recap the situation. Transfer market: joint-ownerships settled yesterday.

The 25th of June was scheduled to be the last day to sort out joint ownership contracts. And Juventus indeed solved all the situations still pending.

One day after extending his contract (until 2013) and renewing the joint ownership with Udinese, Michele Paolucci was again the star of Juve's negotiations. Indeed Juventus approved the striker's temporary transfer from Udinese to Catania.

These are the other operations finalized yesterday; they all concern young players grown up at Juventus who last season played in teams from Serie A, B and C.

Matteo Cavagna: joint ownership with Ravenna was renewed and the player's contract was extended until 2011;
Andre Cuneaz: Juventus bought out full ownership of the player, paying Pistoiese € 500;
Davide Di Berardino: Juventus bought out full ownership of the player, paying Juve Stabia € 8k;
Stefano Dicuonzo: Juventus bought out full ownership of the player, paying Ravenna € 500;
Tomas Guzman: joint ownership with Piacenza renewed;
Andrea Luci: Ascoli and Juventus will make undisclosed bids for the player and the highest one will win;
Matteo Paro: Genoa bought out full ownership of the player, paying Juventus € 2m.
Giuseppe Rizza: Juventus bought out full ownership of the player, paying Juve Stabia € 50k;
Matteo Trini: Juventus bought out full ownership of the player, paying Juve Stabia € 5k;
Francesco Volpe: joint ownership with Livorno renewed;
Pietro Zammuto: Piacenza bought out full ownership of the player, paying Juventus € 170k.

Sebastian Giovinco back at Juventus

A busy end of June at Juventus in transfer market terms: another three deals were completed today, all concerning young talents raised in the Club's youth sector - Giovinco, Lanzafame and Mirante.

The most important item of news, the one all the Bianconeri fans wanted to hear, is that Sebastian Giovinco is again 100% a Juventus player. Indeed the Club exercised the option they had to buy back the whole ownership of the player, and Empoli were therefore unable to exercise their rights to buy the young talent in full. Thus Giovinco will be at Manager Ranieri's disposal for the 2008/09 season.

Juventus did the same with Bari for Davide Lanzafame. They exercised their option, so the Puglia club couldn't get full ownership of the striker. Therefore Lanzafame, one of the best players in Serie B last year, comes back to Juventus.

And finally, Antonio Mirante; Sampdoria exercised their option rights on the Campania-born goalkeeper, who will stay at the Club another year, Sampdoria having full ownership with a participation agreement.

Dario Knezevic signs for Juventus

Another signing to strengthen Juventus' defence. After securing Olof Mellberg already last January, Claudio Ranieri will now also have 26 year old Croatian international Dario Knezevic, formerly at Livorno, at his disposal.

Born in 1982, Knezevic has played for just two professional clubs up until now: HNK Rijeka, his home town's club, where he played until summer 2006, and Livorno, where he played the last two seasons in Serie A.

Knezevic is a regular in the Croatian national side, and also took part in the recent European Championships in Austria and Switzerland. He was unlucky, though, ending his tournament early due to an injury picked up during the game against Poland. He did manage to get three caps, in the three first stage group games, against Austria, Germany and Poland. He was often partnered by former Juventus player Robert Kovac at the centre of the defence.

In all he has collected 10 caps with Croatia, and has also won two Croatian Cups; at Livorno he has scored four times.

The player will already be presented this afternoon. Indeed a press conference has been scheduled for 3 pm, in Vinovo; it will also be shown live on Juventus Channel.

looks like our management is confident with the defenders we have. I don't see knezevic as a starter, merely a solid back-up to mellberg, legro or andrade.

Knezevic will just be backup so that we don't have to rush Andrade back. He can be slowly re-integrated into the squad, with less pressure on this way.

Knezevic will probably replace Stendardo whom I don't think we will pay for, even though I like him a lot.

Renzo Castagnini is the new chief scout

As of today, July 1st 2008, Renzo Castagnini is the new man in charge of Juventus' talent scouts.

Born in Reggello (near Florence) on November 14th 1956, Castagnini played professional football between 1975 and 1990. After his long career as a footballer, he became a manager and since 1992 has been working as Director of Sport at many clubs, among them Barletta, Salernitana, Catania, Genoa, Vicenza and finally Piacenza, the last position he covered before reaching Turin.

At Juventus he will be working under Alessio Secco.

The new man in charge of the scouts expressed his satisfaction via a press release sent out by the Club: «I'm proud to be working for an internationally renowned Club like Juventus».

I just hope that Legrottaglie has a season like he had last year, because I have no confidence in Mellberg, Knezevic or Andrade (especially after a knee injury). What happened to the Lugano deal?

Mellberg is better than folk think.

We never seriously went after Lugano. It ws just occasionalrumours.

Mellberg has a good personality and is a good tough player, but he is very messy. We need a smooth operator at the back next to Chiellini. Legrottaglie is our best choice and I don't think that is that great of a fact to admit.
